MCP explained
What is an MCP server?
An MCP server gives an AI assistant new tools through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard. The Geno MCP server gives Claude and ChatGPT Geno's image tools: turning a reference image into a prompt, and generating new images.
Add it once and you stop switching tabs: you ask in the chat, your AI assistant calls Geno for the image work, and the result comes back in the same conversation. Claude calls an MCP server you add yourself a custom connector; ChatGPT calls it a custom MCP server.
You approve the connection once, in Geno. The assistant can only do what Geno's tools allow: analyse images, generate images, read your plan, credit balance and gallery, and save results to your gallery. You can disconnect it any time in Settings → Connected apps.
Start here
Three things to ask your AI assistant first.
Turn an image into a prompt
Pick a reference image and Geno returns its full analysis (subject, lighting, composition, palette) as a prompt you can reuse.
“Analyse this photo and give me the prompt.”
Generate without leaving the chat
Describe what you want. Geno renders it and saves it to your gallery.
“Make a product shot of a glass bottle on marble, soft window light.”
Analyse, change one thing, regenerate
Analyse an image, ask for one change, and generate a variation that keeps the rest.
“Same look, but at night. Generate it.”
Going further
Where it pays off: repeat work.
Repeat a job with your own rules
Keep your templates and instructions where your AI assistant can read them (in the chat, in a project, or in files it can open) and have it call Geno once per item.
“Use the brief in this sheet and make the product shot for every row.”
Keep a series consistent
Analyse one hero image, then generate every variation from its prompt, so the look stays the same across the set.
“Analyse the hero shot, then generate five variations from its prompt, each in a different colourway.”
Run it on a schedule
Where your AI assistant supports scheduled tasks and other connectors, Geno can be one step in a daily routine: find something with a scraping connector, generate the image with Geno, publish it with a social or blog connector. What the other steps can do depends on those connectors.
“Every morning, take today's top story and make a header image for it.”
Geno makes one image at a time, up to 5 a minute, so a big batch runs as a steady stream, one image after another, and can take a while.

Custom connectors (custom MCP servers in ChatGPT) are available only where the app’s plan offers them. Then start a new chat and ask your AI assistant to “open Geno”.
Good to know
Questions about the Geno MCP server.
What is the Geno MCP server URL?
The Geno MCP server URL is https://geno.spot/mcp. Add it to Claude as a custom connector or to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server, then sign in to Geno and press Allow.
Is the Geno MCP server free?
No, it is part of Geno’s paid plans; connecting it costs nothing extra. Trial accounts cannot connect, even with a top-up, and everything your AI assistant does through it is charged to your Geno credits.
Yes. It works in Claude and in ChatGPT on the web, on desktop and on mobile, wherever the app’s plan offers custom connectors.
Why can’t I just attach a photo to the chat?
Claude and ChatGPT do not hand images attached to the chat on to Geno, so Geno shows a small card instead, where you upload an image, pick one from your gallery or paste a link.
What can my AI assistant see and do?
It can analyse and generate images, read your plan, credit balance and gallery, and save results to your gallery. It cannot change your plan, buy credits or delete anything.
Who handles my conversation?
Claude and ChatGPT do, under their own terms. What you ask your AI assistant to analyse or generate passes through it and its provider; Geno’s privacy policy covers the Geno side.
